The unfinished book referenced in the title would have been a treatise on drugs, art and the self. Linsley presents his collection of literary quotes originally intended as epigraphs for the unwritten chapters. Partial printings of text fragments from the book curiously appear. To quote the Thomas De Quincey selection for the final chapter, “Not the opium-eater, but the opium, is the true hero of the tale.”
