THE THING QUARTERLY IS AN OBJECT BASED PUBLICATION PRODUCED BY VISUAL ARTISTS JONN HERSCHEND AND WILL ROGAN. EACH ISSUE IS CONCEIVED OF BY A DIFFERENT CONTRIBUTOR. THE OBJECT IS REPRODUCED, WRAPPED, AND SHIPPED TO THE SUBSCRIBERS. THE THING PROJECTS IS AN OFF-SHOOT THAT ENCOMPASSES A WIDE RANGE OF ARTWORKS AND EVENTS.
Issue 22 is by LA-based conceptual artist John Baldessari. It consists of two 100% cotton sateen pillowcases featuring an image of a woman clutching a pillow. The black and white image is taken from a Hollywood film still in Baldessari’s collection and has been silkscreened on each pillowcase with environmentally-friendly, water-based ink. The pillowcases are standard-sized and envelope-style. For those who like their thread count high, the issue clocks in at a solid 320 thread count.
Produced entirely in San Francisco, California, with support from Levi’s Made & Crafted and clothing design companies Turk & Taylor and New Factory Friend, this issue has been designed with the intention that one will sleep with it…or on it. Like all issues of THE THING, this one is meant to be used.
