Description

A two part critique on Indigenous people in comics. Session 1 focuses on the “Indian” in comics, specifically – Action Comics #148 (1950), Batman #86 (1954), The Avengers #80. (1970), Red Wolf #1 (2016) and Gord Downie & Jeff Lemire’s Secret Path (2016). Session 2 is about Indigenous self-representation in comics, specifically – Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’ Red: A Haida Manga (2009), Gord Hill’s 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance Comic Book (2010), David Alexander Robertson & Scott B. Henderson’s Sugar Falls: A Residential School Story (2011) and Moonshot: The Indigenous Comic Book Anthology Volume 1 (2015).
