Data Data is a zine made in tandem with the exhibition Living Data, Presumed Dead. This exhibition, shown at Critical Distance Centre for Curators; was supported by Ecologies & Cosmologies a commissioned residency with Trinity Square Video. The initial concept for the zine was inspired by the poetry of Brion Gysin and the programming of Ian Sommerville done in the late 1950s. Using code, the phrase “Write Data, Delete Data, Rewrite Data” is repeated over and over until every word has appeared in every possible position, taking up 18 full pages of text. The design of the text blocks reflects the permutation, and the herbivory seen in Ramsey’s work Byte Patterns, visually fragmenting the rhythmic poem. A small, photo-luminescent acrylic leaf, made from the recycled offcuts of Byte Patterns, is also available as a very limited artist multiple.
