Documentation of the process of producing a work for White Columns, New York in 2009. Includes photocopy booklet.
Excerpt from the artist:
In September 2009 I installed the piece, ‘Untitled (while blinking repeatedly) at White Columns, New York. It comprised a text, stamped directly to a section of the gallery wall using 72 point-size, cast-metal printing type. Each letter (approximately one inch high) was smoked over a candle then stamped with a hammer, leaving a black carbon residue debossed in its place. After the exhibition period of one month the text was removed using sandpaper. The works impetus is the activity it solicits of the reader, combined with the formation of smoke on the wall – its residue later becoming a fine airborne powder.
Dimensions of the original piece were 80 × 144 cm. This version, coda to the original, is published in a numbered edition of 10.
