Sixty images reproduced from film stills that express physical opposition between cowboys, white men, women or soldiers and Hollywood’s “Indians” as a method of examining the Western film genre’s and American cultural representations of binary relationships such as good/evil, colonizer/colonized, civil/savage. The melodrama and tension of these movie stills are emphasized by the black on red format of the book.
This book was originally printed on the occasion of Kennedy’s 1991 solo exhibition, ‘Moving Stills’ at Cold City Gallery.
