The BFI Gallery, which opened in March 2007, is a unique project which has brought together in one space some of the best artists working with the moving image today, allowing them to show their work in a different, inspiring context. Part of the BFI Southbank complex, it is the only London art gallery specifically dedicated to commissioning and showcasing artists’ films and videos and the moving image in its most contemporary forms. It has commissioned and showcased new work by Jane & Louise Wilson, Patrick Keiller, Pierre Bismuth & Michel Gondry, Mat Collishaw, Peter Campus, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and many others. The book includes information on all of the shows presented at the Gallery, interviews with the artists and commissioned essays. Fully illustrated with installation shots taken in the space, it is a precious tool for anyone interested in the intersection between the white cube of the gallery and the cinema auditorium.
The book covers all of the exhibitions which have taken place at the BFI Gallery from its opening in March 2007 to the present day.
