Die internationalen Fabrikstädte des tschechischen Schuhunternehmens Bata sind ein frühes Beispiel der Globalisierung: Mit der Verlagerung des Produktionsstandorte ins Ausland wurde das gesamte System Bata von betrieblichen Sozialleistungen bis hin zu Städtebau und Architektur exportiert. Weltwirtschaftskrise, Kolonialismus und internationaler Handel stimulierten die globale Expansion. Zlin in der Tschechischen Republik war Testfeld für die Produktion einer an der architektonischen Moderne orientierten Fabrikstadt. Hier wurde ein rationell herstellbares, massenhaft reproduzierbares und exportfähiges Modell entworfen. Am Beispiel von drei Satelliten des Bat a Unternehmens Batanagar in Indien, Möhlin in der Schweiz und East Tilbury in Großbritannien wird die Geschichte des Zusammentreffens unterschiedlicher Modernisierungsmodelle und deren Entwicklung bis in die Gegenwart, nach der Schließung des Produktionsstandortes erzählt.

[The international factory towns of the Czech shoe company Bata are an early example of globalization: with the relocation of the production sites abroad, the entire Bata system was exported from company social services to urban planning and architecture. Global economic crisis, colonialism and international trade stimulated global expansion. Zlin in the Czech Republic was the test field for the production of a factory town oriented towards architectural modernism. Here a rationally producible, mass reproducible and exportable model was designed. The example of three satellites of the Bata company Batanagar in India, Möhlin in Switzerland and East Tilbury in Great Britain tells the story of the coincidence of different modernization models and their development up to the present day, after the closure of the production site.]
