Welcome to Michael Landy’s life of contemporary consumerism. Over a three-year period Landy made an inventory of his life – listing every personal belonging. Furniture, notes, clothes, books, every work of art…over 5,000 items were catalogued. Every item was broken down to basic materials and parts in order to be processed through his highly organized structure and staff comprising his “production line of destruction”. By the time the objects reach the end of the line nothing remains but dust.
The book’s design incorporates aspects of industrial manuals, inventory reports, and research files. Includes the complete list of Landy’s possessions, drawings, photographs, a collage of research materials and an interview with Julian Stallabrass.
