Description

The Seen Through Red Special Edition is an artwork in the form of a handmade book, featuring reproductions of archival photographs and nightlife ephemera from the years 2000–2006. This artist’s book was designed with the ability to be disassembled and presented as an exhibition.

Seen Through Red explores personal histories of photography and trans visual agency, offering up an archival unearthing in the dissemination of an unmined period in King’s early creative life. While King took great care in storing this collection for over twenty years, this publication marks a recognition of the ways in which an archive may become a heavy weight to carry. King’s revisitation of her collection of ephemera allows for its recontextualization, and she now shares this history in the form of a handcrafted artist’s book.

The title of the publication considers both the material components, in reference to its clear red acrylic cover, while simultaneously gesturing toward notions of visibility, transparency, ‘red-light’, and sexuality.

The Seen Through Red Special Edition features a laser-cut red transparent acrylic cover and O-Ring binding in an acid-free clamshell box. Produced in an edition of 3.
