Description

The photographs in A Way to Disconnect and Connect were taken by Cristian Ordóñez between 2009 and 2017. Over a period of eight years, Ordóñez photographed people, places and traces throughout Chile (the artist’s country of origin), Canada (his new home) and the United States.

Collected here, the images serve as a record of Ordóñez’s exploration and discovery of a broad range of local information and cultures. The photos provide a representation of a specific place and time, while also activating memories of other places.

The artist uses this process to understand that everything is connected. All photographs were taken using small, medium and large film photographic formats.

Cristian Ordóñez (born in Santiago 1976) grew up living between Santiago, Chile; Christchurch, New Zealand; and Miami, US. Currently, he is based in Toronto, ON Canada where he works on personal, editorial and commercial projects. Cristian’s work has been shown in exhibitions in Canada, Chile, Belgium, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Argentina. His work has been published in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He currently works independently as a Photographer and Art Director, and teaches at OCAD University.
