“back in dubai, anywhere i went i was surrounded by people i’ve known since i was a child. my identity was shaped by the time we’d spent together, not really by my beliefs, my outfits or my tastes. our connection was solid enough that it couldn’t be threatened by not catching a seinfeld reference or not understanding krautrock, etc. when i moved to toronto, i had to make an impression of myself from scratch, in settings that were so foreign to me. this series is about the pressure and anxiety i felt during that process.”
