Continuing the artist’s interest in the metaphorical resonance of mushrooms, Bethune-Leamen’s maquette offers a polymer clay mushroom hand painted with a replica of the official Princess of Wales Memorial Tartan. Bearing the pattern designed to reflect the life and character of Princess Diana, “Maquette for an Impromptu Monument” reflects on the ethos of death and commercial resurrection found in forms of posthumous commemoration.
