This edition takes as its starting point, a monumental bronze sculpture of Prometheus that was erected in Pripyat’s city centre in the early 1970’s. The city, located in the Northern Ukraine, was built to accommodate the thousands of workers along with their families needed to operate the nuclear power stations at Chernobyl nearby.
Prometheus, who in Greek myth stole fire from the gods for mankind, was a fitting sculpture for this new city.
Following the nuclear accident at Chernobyl in 1986, the statue was removed from its position in the centre of Pripyat, and re-installed within 200 meters of the accident site where it has remained.
