Description

An autobiographical story, presented as a set of instructions mirroring poetic tropes. Composed from recycled iterations and reiterations of a failed architecture project, it invites the user into the despair of watching a fruitless wreckage unfold.

“I Wanted To Call This The Fruits of Our Labour” breathes new life into a futile project which, through emboldening the connection between Ontario wild bees and their respective pollen sources, once advocated for wild bees in urban areas. The work acts as a vessel for low-profile wildlife advocacy while loudly grappling with themes of labour and one’s relationship to the by-products of thought. It challenges the value we, as proverbial farmers, attach to the success of our craft and to our ability to revel in its fruition. In chasing fruit, we are blinded to other blossoms that may stem from our labour. Still, through its creation and user participation, the work continues to demand fruit.
