Aftertexts is a new series of artists’ books focused on process and research as a site of artistic practice. Each volume features commissioned texts that respond to a new body of work by an emerging artist, offering analysis, poetic meditation, and new literary entrances into the work.
Aftertexts Vol. 01, co-published with Franz Kaka, expands on the painting practice of Toronto-based artist Azadeh Elmizadeh, accompanied by texts by Nasrin Himada and Nima Esmailpour. Rooted in historical archives and ancient allegories, Elmizadeh’s paintings weave an interconnected narrative between spiritual and natural bodies. The publication features a new series of paintings, as well as preparatory collages that informed Elmizadeh’s exhibition, Timekeepers, currently on view at Franz Kaka. Through this body of work, she produces a material index that connects the terrestrial to the transcendental, underscoring the interconnectedness of human and non-human actors.
