To properly document the audio installation, Rights of Passage, by Lou Sheppard, in print form poses a challenge. As an immersive experience driven primarily by audio performances, to distill the work into the printed page is almost as absurd as Algae’s comedic spiel from Act 3. As such, the catalogue for the exhibition has been rendered as a vinyl LP, with three songs specifically distilled from the exhibition’s soundtrack featured on side A (performed by Pamela Hart; produced by Cecile Believe) and an abridged version of the full work by the Riparian Chorus (Lou Campbell, Helah Cooper, Kira Daube, Séamus Gallagher, Arjun Lal, and Wren Tian-Morris). The booklet insert includes the visual scores from the project as well as an introduction by Jenifer Papararo, director/curator, and curatorial essay by Michael Maranda, assistant curator, publications. Booklet and sleeve designed by Ingrid Paulson.
