Featuring new poetry by Evelyn Lau, Peter Leight, Fanny Howe, Susan Ioannou, Joshua Levy and more, Vallum 16:1 “Connections” explores the ways in which we try, and fail, to connect. Photography by Eric Pickersgill accompanies the poems, visualizing the presence and absence of technology in our lives. The issue also includes an essay on digital connection by Colin Brezicki; an interview with Thurston Moore and John Kinsella; reviews of new books by Laurelyn Whitt, Tess Liem, Susan Gillis, and Gil McElroy; and the winners of the 2018 Vallum Award for Poetry. What emerges is an understanding of connection as both real and imagined, ephemeral and chemical; a tribute to poetry itself as a space where we connect.
