Protocol Warum is a duo consisting of Paul Collins (Collins & Palix, P_LAB, Unstable Lands) and Jules Negrier (Caandides, Unstable Lands).
Collins plays “dactylic synthesis”- that is, he plays DAWless and awry, letting his fingers do the walking over the keyboard and dials of his analog synthesizer. His method of playing is corporeal, physical.
Negrier plays modular and granular synthesis. These tools allow him to strip his sounds down to their essence and discover unexpected phonic territory.
Together they play a richly textured music that tends to the modal, replete with skewed themes structured around looped or sequenced vamps (Exactly That, Voiture 16) and the cutting and splicing of recorded improvisation (Le cube des couleurs).
