Art Metropole

Josh Thorpe is an artist, writer, and musician living in Toronto. He has a Master’s in Visual Studies from University of Toronto and he works at ERA Architects and Cove & Ovolo. His work has been shown in Canada, the US, and Europe. In 2009 Art Metropole published Thorpe’s first book, Dan Graham Pavilions: A Guide.

Aidan Baker is a Canadian musician & writer alternately based in Toronto & Berlin. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, his primary instrument is the electric guitar with which he creates music ranging from experimental/drone to ambient post-rock to contemporary classical. He is the author of several books of poetry & has released numerous albums on such labels as Drone Records, Basses Frequences, & Alien8 Recordings.

Merrill Beth Nisker (born November 11, 1966), better known by her stage name Peaches, is a Canadian electronic musician and performance artist who lives in Berlin, Germany. Her songs are noted for disregarding traditional gender norms and for their use of sexually explicit lyrics. She plays her own instruments for her songs, programs her own electronic beats, and produces her own albums.

Her songs have been featured in movies such as Mean Girls, Waiting…, Jackass Number Two, My Little Eye, Drive Angry and Lost in Translation. Her music has also been featured on television shows such as Lost Girl, The L Word, Ugly Betty, South Park, 30 Rock, True Blood and has been used for the promotion of Dirt. Peaches performed guest vocals on Pink’s album Try This, on the song Oh My God, on the Chicks on Speed album 99 Cents, on the song We Don’t Play Guitars, on Christina Aguilera’s 2010 album Bionic, on the song My Girls (which was produced and co-written with Le Tigre), and recently on Major Lazer’s 2013 album Free the Universe on the song Scare Me featuring Timberlee.

Andrew Zealley is a Toronto-based artist whose work expands beyond audio and music methods to inform mixed disciplines and media. His practice has been situated at the shifting nexus of HIV/AIDS, queer identity, and the body since 1990. Zealley s audio installation, Nature: This Is A Recording, is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada. He has recordings published by labels Art Metropole, Fine & Dandy, How To Explain Silence To A Dead Hare, Old Europa Cafe, Public Record/Ultra-red, Tourette Records, and Vague Terrain. Zealley holds an MFA in interdisciplinary studies from OCAD University. He is currently pursuing doctoral research through the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University; Program of Study: Safe and Sound: Art, Queer Listening, and Biopolitics of HIV/AIDS.
