The Dispossessed – Group Reading

A group reading and recording of one complete chapter of Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Dispossessed, including existing hand-written notes, marginalia and underlined passages. The paperback books used here come from a collection of over one hundred copies of Ursula K. Le Guin’s popular 1974 novel.

An ongoing series organized by Danielle Aubert consisting of group readings and recordings for each chapter of The Dispossessed, with the goal of putting together a kind of “used book audio recording” of the entire book. Previous recordings have been conducted at Ditto Ditto books in Detroit (Chapter 1), and at Labyrinth Books in Princeton, NJ (Chapter 2).

Danielle Aubert is a member of Placement and the International Typographical Union, graphic design groups that examine materials, methods of production, and specificity of place. They have presented work in various venues including the School of Art Institute of Chicago, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and Motto in Berlin. Placement (with Lana Cavar & Natasha Chandani) edited the book Thanks for the View, Mr. Mies about the Mies van der Rohe designed neighborhood Lafayette Park, in Detroit. Aubert has worked since 2008 as an assistant professor at Wayne State University in Detroit. She is currently at Princeton University, where she is a Fellow in Creative and Performing Art at the Lewis Center for the Arts.
