h1.School of Serial Production #3: Speaker Lab
On June 10th, Art Metropole presented Speaker Lab, the third installment of the highly successful School of Serial Production. As with previous SSP’s, the participants were supplied with a set of materials, for a nominal fee, which were then manipulated following the instructions of Art Metropole’s Zin Taylor into a working component able to transform nearly anything into an audio speaker.
The sold out crowd quickly progressed from the initial lesson to begin amplifying any and all objects at their disposal. Some examples included: a drivers license, a plate, a sheet of paper, a miller high life can, a ladder, a garbage can from artist Candyass, and the air ducts. Needless to say, the evening was an educational success with the School of Serial Production tackling the nebulous region of sound in its own particular manner.
As participant Jinhan Ko described it: “That’s not science, that’s black magic!â€
