Art Metropole is excited to announce Scattered Clouds, a new shop project at 72 Perth Avenue, produced in partnership with the Toronto Biennial of Art.
Scattered Clouds features publications and multiples by artists and writers exploring narratives in ecology, community, history – reflecting the vision for What Water Knows, The Land Remembers, the second edition of the two-part biennial. These include work by Dionne Brand, Tarana Burke + Brune Brown, Kathryn Yussof, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Aki Onda, Susan Schuppli, Cathy Park Hong, Dylan Robinson, Joan Didion, Luis Jacob, Diane Borsato + Amish Morell, Rinaldo Walcott, Carol Anne Hilton, Victoria Mamnguqsualuk, Sara Florence Davidson & Robert Davidson, Mark Cheetham, Dana Claxton, Nour Bishouty, Hugh Brody, Brenda Draney, Kate Hennessy, Candice Hopkins, Brian Jungen, Postcommodity, and Godzilla Asian American Arts Network.
The shop installation at 72 Perth Ave is an extension of Art Metropole’s evolving space-making project by artist and architect Christian Kliegel. Responding to the existing interior architecture, which is idiosyncratic and full of contradictions, Kliegel adds a rhythm and atmosphere to the space that feels uncanny but functional – such as concrete casts of the lighting sconces that create a footing for lightweight shelving surrounding the structural columns of the lobby. Playing between warm and cold, soft and hard, the materials are humble and handworked, like cardboard and milled lumber, creating a link to Kliegel’s current intervention at the new Art Metropole location on College Street.
