Art Metropole is proud to publish the second in our series of Bookcovers by Artists.

Lucy Pullen’s piece is a custom made dust-jacket, fabricated out of a reflective material. Reflective Dust-jacket has its roots in Pullen’s ongoing series of photographs in which one thing in the frame is illuminated. When photographed, reflective material returns a burst of light from flash to camera, causing a disturbance in the film. An aura appears on film, in lieu of the object. The series Bookcovers by Artists began in 2002 with Honey I rearranged the collection, by Allen Ruppersberg, a poster designed to be wrapped around a book.

Born in 1971 in Montreal, Quebec, Lucy Pullen is currently based in Victoria, British Columbia, where she is Assistant Professor, Sculpture, at the University of Victoria. Pullen received her Masters of Fine Art from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in Philadelphia, and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax. Pullen has participated in residencies internationally and exhibits principally in Canada and the U.S. Art Metropole exhibited new work by Lucy Pullen from May 22 – June 28, 2003.
