Please join Lisa Robertson and Hadley Howes for a reception and reading of 3 Summers, Robertson’s 9th book of poetry. 3 Summers marks Robertson’s 5th book collaboration with artists Hadley+Maxwell, who also made work for Cinema of the Present, Lisa Robertson’s Magenta Soul Whip, Nilling, and Occasional Work and Seven Walks from the Office for Soft Architecture.

3 Summers is a collection of new poems exploring the relationships between corporality, linguistic form, and time.

Lisa Robertson teaches occasionally (lately at University of Princeton and Toronto New School of Writing), and often writes texts for the visual arts, most recently for Liz Magor’s The Blue One Comes in Black (Triangle, Marseilles) and for the exhibition The Blur in Between at the Art Gallery of Alberta. While in Ontario, she will also be speaking at the Concept of Vancouver conference at Brock University, and at ArtLab gallery at Western University. She lives in France.

Hadley Howes uses tools of translation, dislocation, and reconfiguration for her work which takes many forms: from individual private writing and walking to collaborative public art and performance. Lisa continues to be a significant inspiration to Hadley ever since they met in Vancouver on the board of Artspeak gallery in 1999, over the course of 5 book collaborations and a sculptural installation (When That was This, Hamilton Art Gallery, 2015), many geographical migrations, and in recent years caring for Lisa’s dog Rosa in la Malgache has been a source of insight into desire, corporality and time – experiences that are always part of Hadley’s reading.

Poet and essayist Lisa Robertson has held residencies at the California College of the Arts, Cambridge University; University of California, Berkeley; UC San Diego; and American University of Paris. Her books include Cinema of the Present, Debbie: An Epic (nominated for the Governor General’s Award in Canada), The Men, The Weather, R’s Boat (poetry) and Occasional Works and Seven Walks from the Office for Soft Architecture (essays). Lisa Robertson’s Magenta Soul Whip (Coach House) was named one of The New York Times 100 Notable Books of 2010, and was longlisted for the 2011 Warwick Prize for Writing. She currently lives in France.
