Book launch for Luis Jacob's Album
Art Metropole is pleased to launch Luis Jacob’s Album IV and an accompanying special photo edition titled Coalescent One.
Please join us on Saturday May 29, from 1-3 p.m. to meet the artist.
Album IV was published by Art Metropole on the occasion of the exhibition Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, where Jacob’s Album IV (2004-05) was recently acquired for their permanent collection. Published as part of a series of Album artist books, Album IV is presented as a full-colour volume in an edition of 1000 copies. This work consists of hundreds of images culled from a variety of books, magazines, and other publications. Through processes of visual association, these images compose an extended narrative around various themes: pregnancy and childbirth, the trepidation of first steps, the schooling of children, the erotic dimension of mentorship and leadership roles, the formation of bonds of friendship and clique groupings, the reinforcement of behaviour and accomplishments, and social participation, withdrawal or transformation. Using imagery excised from published sources, these topics weave to form an encyclopedic thesis on the pedagogical roots of social experience.
Coalescent One is a new black and white photograph produced by Luis Jacob in a limited edition of 16, available exclusively through Art Metropole. We are delighted to invite you to support the publication by purchasing this striking photograph. Each print will be accompanied by a copy of the new book, especially signed by the artist.
