Gendai Vectors:
Mobile Unit by Alexandre David
Arrival & Public Discussion:
Wed., Feb.15, 7-9pm
Running through:
March 17, 2012
Vectors: Connections and Interventions is a new programming initiative established between Gendai Gallery and guest artist Yam Lau. It is Gendai’s latest in a series of exploratory exercises in exhibition, production and forms of communication in and around the art community. For Vectors, inventive implementations of a custom designed mobile seating/presentation/storage unit (commissioned by Gendai and designed by Montreal artist Alexandre David) will be deployed to activate and animate various host sites.
At the inaugural launch of the mobile unit at Art Metropole, Vectors will implicate the unit with the rich archive of the host institute. In doing so, it also becomes the first in a series of interactions with and interventions into Art Metropole’s Publications and Ephemera Archive from the present. Vectors undertakes this exercise with the vital belief that the past is not all given, that the novel can be actualized from the archival, and the unforeseen can be extracted from the already transpired. The process and result of this exercise will be open to the public during the months of February and March. A final closing event will be announced at a later date.
Please join Yan Wu of Gendai, Yam Lau, Alexandre David and Corinn Gerber at Art Metropole for an informal discussion and to “test drive” the mobile unit on February 15, Wednesday from 7p.m. to 9p.m.
