Facilitated by Emma Sharpe
Date: Monday 18 December 2017
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Art Metropole
SEEKING PARTICIPANTS for an intimate workshop to take place at Art Metropole, Monday, December 18, 2017.
Feeled Recordings will invite participants to interact directly with material and ephemera from Art Metropole’s archive. Prior to the workshop, participants will select items of interest from a list of available material. Through a series of exercises and prompts, participants will compile a keyword list of somatic and affective responses to the selected items. These responses will be catalogued and reintroduced to the archive’s digital storage system under a new category header, Feeling, and will become searchable terms within the online database.
By experiencing and augmenting the archive in these ways, Feeled Recordings will consider some of the following questions:
What is the role of the body when ‘reading’ printed material?
What are the limitations of digital interfaces for representing archival material?
Who and what is represented within archival categories, and why?
This workshop is part of a larger SSHRC-funded Masters research project being conducted by Emma Sharpe. Emma has been engaged in a work-study position at AM since early Summer 2017, funded by the Young Canada Works program.
This is a free event, but with limited capacity. If you are interested in participating, please tell us why in 50-100 words or less by Monday December 4th, 2017, sending your reasons directly to emma@artmetropole.com.
