Art Metropole presents a new fundraising edition launch on Saturday June 18th.
The edition, titled Household Fame is a collaboration between Luis Jacob and the photographer Miguel Jacob, a color photograph 14 × 11 inches in an edition of 30, signed and numbered by the two brothers.
SHOWstudio.com challenged viewers to send in images of themselves, dressed in extraordinary costumes honouring the legacy of the great cultural iconoclast Leigh Bowery. Miguel Jacob (with Luis Jacob) won the competition with this image.
Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Miguel Jacob worked as an English and French teacher both in Canada and France before starting his career in photography in 2004 without any formal training. Household Fame was one of the four photographs selected by stylist and judge Simon Foxton as part of a Leigh Bowery competition organized by SHOWstudio in November 2004.
Luis is one of great young stars from the Queen Street West milieu, an extraordinary artist, activist and animateur. His activities span a range from artist and curator to dazzling performer (with the Hidden Cameras, for example). If you are in Toronto, don’t miss his installation at the Sculpture Garden, which just opened.
Art Metropole thanks the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council, as well as private donors for their support.
