Please join Art Metropole and Anchorless Press for a drop-in signing of Zinnia Naqvi’s new publication, Dear Nani, on August 20 at Art Metropole, 896 College St, Toronto, from 2-4PM.
Dear Nani (2017 – ongoing) features photographs of the artist’s maternal grandmother, Rhubab Tapal, performing the act of cross-dressing by wearing several different outfits that belong to her husband, addressing issues of gender performance and colonial mimicry through the family archive. The publication includes an essay by the artist Zinnia Naqvi, a glossary of Urdu terms found in the book, and a hand silkscreened book wrap featuring a poem in response to the work by Arushi Vats. Dear Nani is a thoughtfully designed photobook that offers layers of intricacies to unpack.
The publication will be available for purchase. The event will take place outdoors, and refreshments will be provided. Entry to our alleyway is through our shop at 896 College, or via Delaware Avenue, north of College St. Please note: masks are required inside Art Metropole.
