Art Metropole is pleased to announce that we will participate in the inaugural NY Art Book Fair from November 17-19 2006. Art Metropole will be selling books and multiples as well as hosting a signing on November 18th at 3:00PM by celebrated artist Stephen Ellwood in promotion of his book This Is What It Feels Like To Be Like This published by Art Metropole in 2005.

Presented by Printed Matter, The NY Art Book Fair is the first annual fair of contemporary art books, art catalogues, artists’ books, art periodicals, and ‘zines offered for sale by over 70 international publishers, booksellers, and antiquarian dealers.

Stephen Ellwood’s work uses language as a means for creating narratives and indexes in various formats, including video, books, posters, cards, wall works, and temporary installations. Typeset or handwritten on the wall, the words double as drawings, using language as a stand-in, and freestanding narratives, gleaned from hermetic and social experiences. Born in 1973, Stephen Ellwood lives and works in New York.

Art Metropole is pleased to host the launch party for Stephen Ellwood’s latest book, This Is What It Is Like To Be Like This. Published by Art Met, the new work contains 58 text works, each a language-based drawing of a specific moment, object, action, or state, and tour through the bed, the body, the garden, and the street. The drawings were originally shown in Spring 2003 at Canada, NYC.

The book also includes ten reproduced landscape photographs taken by Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) in New York State and England between 1905 and 1915.

Selected works include:

A Figure In Profile Reclining
A Piebald Fur-Covered Mammal
A Face Buried, Behind
A Slowly Dissolved World
A Trophy Head
(A Spectre)
Grey Light
Shirtless
