Art Metropole is proud to announce it has become a certified living wage employer.
A living wage is calculated by the The Ontario Living Wage Network to show how much a household — two adults working full time supporting two small children — must earn per hour in order to make ends meet and enjoy modest participation in their civic and cultural community. Since July 2020, all staff at Art Metropole earn at least $22.08 per hour, the living wage calculated for Toronto.
Artists and other cultural workers often face precarious working conditions, lack of job security, and below-average wages. Becoming a certified living wage employer represents Art Metropole’s ongoing commitment to addressing these issues. We urge our peers – other artist-run centres, galleries, museums, and publishers in the arts – to commit to paying living wages within your organizations.
