The project Duplication, Transcodage, initiated by Adam Bobbette (Hong Kong) and Pablo Rodriguez (Montréal), appears in both Tokyo and Toronto. The installation consists of two found neon signs, an open copy of O.M. Ungers Morphologie, City Metaphors and a specially commissioned poster on display and distributed in both cities. The works will be installed in Art Metropole’s storefront window.
Duplication, Transcodage are neon signs purchased from a defunct corner store in Montréal that sold religious paraphernalia, household necessities, and offered dubbing services. In their original context and now displaced, the signs both symbolize and perform; they point to themselves, each other and their environment. They name a process while inhabiting it. Like many signs, Duplication, Transcodage lead duplicitous lives inside and outside themselves simultaneously.
