50 Years of Art Metropole at Art Basel

This year marks Art Metropole’s 50th anniversary of participation at Art Basel. Art Metropole first attended Art Basel in 1976 alongside General Idea’s FILE Megazine, and has participated yearly ever since.

At Art Basel this year we are pleased to present a selection of Art Metropole publications and editions first launched at Art Basel throughout the years, such as the Shopping Bags by Artists series which featured work from Michael Snow, Dan Graham, Yoko Ono, Jonathan Monk, and more.

We will also launch Gillian’s House, a new commissioned fundraising edition by artist Yan Wen Chang. Produced in an edition of five, each multiple is individually hand-painted and contains subtle variations.

In addition to these editions, our booth will feature a wide range of rare artists’ books, catalogues, and other publications, alongside books by emerging artists drawn from our current shop inventory – connecting threads through the history of artist-initiated publishing to contemporary artists working in the medium today. Our booth will feature publications from General Idea, Roy Lichtenstein, Daniel Buren, David Shrigley, Cindy Sherman, Ulises Carrión, Jenny Holzer, Dan Graham, Ellsworth Kelly, John Baldessari, Martha Rosler, Ed Ruscha, John Jack Baylin and John Dowd, Lawrence Weiner, Richard Prince, Yoko Ono, Yan Wen Chang, Petra Collins, Maurizio Nannucci, Michael Snow, James Lee Byars, G.B. Jones, Katherine McKittrick, Azadeh Elmizadeh, Yaniya Lee, Joshua Schwebel, Jordan King, A Maior, and more.
