Art Metropole is pleased to announce its participation at the 50th Art Basel art fair, in partnership with Printed Matter, Inc., New York.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of Art Metropole’s participation at the fair; AM and File Megazine first attended in 1976, sharing a booth with Art Forum. Since that time, Art Metropole has attended nearly every year, increasing its presence and eventually partnering with Printed Matter in the 1980s. The two organizations went on to produce Learn to Read Art at the 1991 fair, a significant exhibition and sale of 287 published works by artists from the postwar period to the then-present. AM and PM resumed collaborating in the early 2000s, and continue to share booths at Art Basel and Art Basel Miami to this day.
For its part in the fair, Art Metropole features a range of newer publications and editions by Canadian and International artists and publishers, including Jason Baerg, Nour Bishouty, Brick Press, Martin Creed, Dodie Bellamy & Kota Ezawa, David Hartt, Antonia Hirsch, Ken Kagami, Kathy Slade, and Derek Sullivan. This collection is accompanied by important and rare publications and editions by AA Bronson & General Idea, Stan Douglas, Franklin Furnace, Image Bank, Barbara Ess, Andrea Fraser, Dan Graham, Lawrence Weiner, Jonathan Monk, Yoko Ono, Michael Snow, Ron Terada, and many others. Continuing its Shopping Bags by Artists series, Art Metropole has produced a special edition shopping bag by Toronto artist Daniel Griffin Hunt for the fair.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Art Basel is taking special precautions to ensure the safety of all participants in the fair. A Swiss or EU COVID-19 certificate is required to access the show, among other strict safety measures. More details can be found on the Art Basel website: https://artbasel.com/covid-19.
